1960 c10

I've been looking at getting a 1960 C10 recently. It seems they are getting rare up here in Canada. Found one for $2000.00. Long box, a lot of rust. Transit mechanic was the original owner, and the second owner parked it in 1984 after driving it a few times.

I was born in 1959 and looked for a truck that year... then I got a great deal on a 1977 C10 this summer. Been hooked on the square bodies ever since.

But that stepside goes to my youngest Grandson in 10 years when he turns 16. And Papa needs a build for himself.

Now... it seems that a 1962 or newer frame might be more desirable suspension upgrade candidate. Should I build a 62-63 frame and try to get a 1960 cab and short box on it? Or is the 1960 frame a good start? I want to end up with a short stepper on air, 4 link in the rear, and a big block for the smile.

Welcome, Ronzo, to the forum. I know you are talking Chevy, but your renderings reminded me so much of another good member's ride that I think you might enjoy looking at his. Look up this guy's build-thread and finished product(project). He offers lots to enjoy and even more to learn from his excellent documentations and his perfectionistic(hope you like that word) upgrades: "markeb01" is his member name.

Oh, I also think you should buy a more solid(You said lots of rust.) beginner AND a shortbed to start with. Obviously, the one you found could be brought around; but why spend all that talent, time, money, and "minimum-wage-work" when you could start right off doing the fun stuff. Personally, I'd prefer paying double for what I described, and I believe it can be found. Obviously, if it is missing an engine and transmission, just figure that is more labor already done for you.

Hope you find what you want and need, so you can 'run with that brilliant grandson coming along'! I know he's the best-looking, brightest and smartest; what I cannot understand is how mine is also????

Sam

Welcome to the forum Ronzo

I was also born in 1959, but I don't like '59's as well as my first truck which was a '63. I myself do prefer the '63-'66 frames over the '60-'62 frames with the large X-member and torsion bars. The '67-'72 frames will also work with a few minor mods. Changing frames will depend on what is required to make it legal in your Province.

Re: 1960 c10

Thanks folks, I appreciate the advice. I've passed on the 1960, eyes still open for a good cab and front end. Looking south at the moment for a good starting point. I just rescued a one owner 1954 GMC, hope to make a little coin for the 60 project.

Re: 1960 c10

Hey guys, will 6 lug rims from a 70's truck fit a 1960?
I have to move one tomorrow and the front tires are off the bead.

I appreciate that answer. There's a fellow selling a frame a few hours north, been thinking if its worth it or not. What do you think?

Re: 1960 c10

If that rolling chassis is everything it is advertised, it is likely worth that much, but of course it doesn't hurt to try and get a better deal. I would definitely check it out.

Sitting with 3 flat tires, and the hood is loose. New windshield sitting on my dogs couch.

I'll open the garage door and get a pic with the blue stepper tomorrow.

Looks like a good start. Wish I had a '60 hood, love the eyebrows.

Looks like a Double Double from Timmie's is in order! Awesome trucks, and I'd be all over that frame, he's dome all the work it looks like.
