GA is the same. They don't care about the alpha-numerics, just the year. As long as I have the blue/white 70 plate, I could run a bus plate or a car from Savannah. I may have to get over the letters and numbers too.

Re: Build Date Question

This confirms the MM/DD/YY format on a t-case date code vs the stickers MM/YY. As I originally stated we then have roughly a two week window every month where both tags would match in regards to MM and YY. This tag being a late 12/69 (just before Christmas break) with a 1/70 build on the sticker are exactly as expected.

Re: Build Date Question

That's awesome. I wish I had my TC back so I could check the date. But that is really a lot to go on. 12/23 on th TC and a Jan build decal on a St.Louis build.

Re: Build Date Question

OK...my transfer case build date was 1/13/70....which kind of muddies the waters as much as it clears anything up. Wouldn't it have been nice if it had been two weeks earlier...still need those VINs guys...thanks.

Re: Build Date Question

I've actually been wondering if there are any '70 Jimmy's with a '69 build date.

Sure there are.

Looks like around 40,000 or so (just considering the ones from St Louis); three of which are represented in this thread.

Why were you wondering?

Interesting question! If you are asking about the GMC "Jimmy" (XX15514 utility models) and not GMC "CKs" as a group.

Keith, You have me puzzled.
The only GMC Jimmy I see here is 70gmcjimmy's @ 62306 with a 01/70 build.
Since the seperately sequenced 70 GMC production started at 50001, that makes it about 12,305 off the line of all GMCs "CKs" built in St Louis to that point for the 1970 MY.
From that it is impossible to tell how many were the "Jimmy" utility vehicle.

Re: Build Date Question

Oops; I was thinking Blazer/Jimmy as a whole and didn't make a distinction between Chevy and GMC.

Sorry 'bout that.

(By the way, this happens all the time here at work. Someone will make a statement and someone else will reply..." that's Escalade. We're talkin' about Denali". Oops.)

In any event, I don't know why there wouldn't be, as I'm not aware of any specific work stoppage or stop order for GMC. During the squarebody era approximately one out of every nine vehicles was a GMC nameplate.

(backs away slowly) - Carry on....

Good info, thank-you! I was reluctant to even post that info due the the Blazer specific question of this thread.

Likely doesn't help but my 1970 GMC Jimmy 73545 was built on 6/70 in St. Louis.

I was curious because I was born in '69, and always wanted a '69 Blazer, but when I discovered that the Jimmy's had quad headlights, I decided I liked that better, but they only go back to 1970, so I thought it would be cool if I had '70 Jimmy with a '69 build year.

Edit: Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Re: Build Date Question

No problem it was early for both of us.

Just trying to sort things out so everyone in on the same page.

Agree that it does look like they were a normal release for 70 being presented in the 7-69 dated GMC Four Wheel Drives brochure.
If vancelot69 wants to dig more into this it needs to be a sperate thread though.

Work... I'd love to spend a few days shadowing you there! :-)

Re: Build Date Question

I bought a 1970 blazer in February and just started working on it and the serial number is 26 before the one in your first post. So I guess my build date should be 9/69 Thanks for the info on build dates.

Re: Build Date Question

If it's still the stock gears in the rear end, The build date is stamped on the ring gear. Since its a corporate 12 bolt it was built in the gm plant. Don't know how close to the truck build date the axles were built though.

Rear axle was stamped January 7th...right in line with the other stuff on the truck. Sorry, I had already posted that on the trucks' side version of this thread...should have included that info here already too.

Ok. Still looks like you're pushing late January then.

Yes...it's a tough one. I really think it was at the end of January, but it's going to be hard to confirm unless somebody hits us with some really close numbers. I need a lower number in February or a higher number in January...that's not too much to ask right

Re: Build Date Question

IronCanine, looking at this Craigslist add for a 2wd Blazer, I've noticed that it must be an early 1970 because it is the only other one that I've seen with the "8-350" badge under the K-5 emblem. In one of the pictures you can see that it does still have the Manufacture date sticker on the driver's door. It might be worth trying to contact the guy and see if the info is close enough to help you on your quest to find your manufacture date.

Thanks for the heads up...I called him and it's a S151XXX...very close. He's going to text me the date tomorrow (hopefully). Seemed nice. Sounded and looked like a legit one owner. Gonna make someone very happy. Helluva truck. Hope you posted it in the 2wd find thread.

Re: Build Date Question

I found it in the 2wd find thread. Wow, 6,000 units away from yours, if it is a late January build date, that pretty much settles it for you, huh?
