Re: 1972 GMC Sierra Grande
I think the GMC SPIDS carried the chevy codes. Sierra Grande which is top of the line GMC corresponds to Cheyenne which is top of the line chevy

Re: 1972 GMC Sierra Grande
Actually, the codes are GM Truck, not Chevy. The names are Chevy or GMC. The codes are what you go by and it sounds like you have a Sierra (Z84), which is equivalent to a Cheyenne (Z84). The YE9 would be a Sierra Grande or Cheyenne Super. Z84 is also the code for CSTs, and I imagine (w/o checking) GMC Super Customs in years prior.
Many descriptions vary and/or are incorrect. I've only seen one truck with wrong code. That was a '71 Cheyenne Super with Z84 code. '69 was the last year for the 396 but many '71 SPID still list the 402 as 396. I dunno, just the way it is

Re: 1972 GMC Sierra Grande
I think it might have been SS Tim on here a couple of days ago[he is a very knowledgeable source about this SPID stuff] said it may have had a lot to do with who was behind the type writer on the day the SPID was typed. Jim
