Truck Wont start!

alright, well pretty much as the title says, i have a no start. it starts if gas is put in the intake but dies out when its all used up. i know its a fuel problem, i just replaced the gas tank and it was running fine after that, and then one day i had it running fine and i turned it off and went back to start it again and it wouldent start. any tips?

Is the fuel pump kicking on? (assuming you have the electric one in the tank still)

Yes. This is the ground for your fuel pump.

Re: Truck Wont start!

Is this a single or dual tank setup?
Check the fuel pump relay/fuse.
Is the fuel filter good?
Is there any pressure on the fuel
On key on have someone listen by the tank to make sure the pump kicks on (its a whining noise)
This sounds crazy but bang on the bottom of the tank if you don't hear a noise.. The pumps will lock up and banging on the tank can get them unlocked and working temporarily. If it does start however you still need to change the pump.

its a single tank, ill check the filter today and the fuse. i tried the banging on the tank trick and it didnt seem to work, but ill try again. really not looking forwards to taking down the tank again

I'll bet the "click" you hear is the fuel pump relay working just fine. If you don't hear the pump running, check the power coming FROM the relay towards the pump... then if that's good you will need to pull the tank and check power at the fuel pump and the pump operation itself.

If you've had the tank(s) down before, did you replace all the old rubber lines between the tank and the engine with new? They get old and brittle, and pieces can break off inside and jam so as to cork the line internally.

Never work on old stuff without replacing rubber vacuum hoses, fuel lines, coolant hoses, and flexible brake lines.

If you did just re-use the old stuff, you might replace that first, before dropping the tank. That may or may not be the problem, but it should be done anyway, and it's easy and cheap.

Oh, and new clamps too.
