Re: 64 Chevy c10 stepside
Anyone have any ideas on the best way to remove the white paint? I would like to leave the original look as much as possible.

Re: 64 Chevy c10 stepside
Nice truck to start with. For removing the paint, you might try covering the area with an old towel and try soaking it with Simple Green degreaser before attempting to scrub it off. I've used Simple Green on models for years and it works great. Leaves the plastic like new. I've never tried it on metal surfaces before (never had a need) but I would think it to be far less damaging than paint remover or brake fluid. Just a thought.

Re: 64 Chevy c10 stepside
If you don't dig the black and gold you can buff to a nice shine like my '62.

Re: 64 Chevy c10 stepside
As long as it isn't latex paint, I would start with either lacquer thinner or carb spray. Put some on a rag and start where there is just rust underneath. Try a little at a time and see how it goes.

Re: 64 Chevy c10 stepside
Maybe you should name your truck after some huge bird, like an Ostrich or Condor. How about "The Pterodactyl".
Just kidding...cool stepper!

Re: 64 Chevy c10 stepside
Before you attack the white paint, I would start posting in some of the Auto body forums.
As perfect as the patina is on that truck, I wouldn't want to just start experimenting. I wonder if most would blow off with just a pressure washer. But still, start researching.

Re: 64 Chevy c10 stepside
Oh, and when you start attacking the white paint, start in an inconspicuous area.
