body shims different side to side

I am in the process of putting in new body mounts, and noticed I only have shims under the firewall body mount position. but the drivers side has two shims and the passenger only one. Is that normal or for the sides to be shimmed differently or is it more likely I lost one?

Re: body shims different side to side

While replacing the body mounts on my 69 K5, I noticed that I also had several shims in one mount that I did others. Some had none, some had one, but there was one area with 3. I put them back and didn't have any issues. The drivers door which I had a lot of trouble opening and closing did not have any but after replacing the mount the door works great.

Re: body shims different side to side

Thanks for the rely. I only found two mounts with shims or had two and the other only had one I was nervous they should have the same but that doesn't sound like it is true.

Re: body shims different side to side

They could all be different from side to side. You just have to add/remove shims to get everything to sit correctly since everything's not usually exactly symmetric.

Re: body shims different side to side

I am trying to shim my body for door gaps and I find that one side needed more shims than the other but when I added them it put the whole body on an angle. Still trying to figure out what I need to do.
