Re: Project "vanity Yukon"

I've got 2 people wanting to come see it today or tomorrow, probably going to put them off till tomorrow and take advantage of the nice weather today and fix the abs sensitivity issue, replace the serp belt since it squeaks at cold idle, maybe replace the t stat since it takes too long for it to warm up, vacuum, wash and wax it, and investigate the heater core seals.

Leaning towards a suburban or yukon XL for the next one, my daughters first Christmas is looking like the grandparents are going to spoil her with presents since this is the first grand daughter and first great grand daughter and ill need to haul everything back from CT and NY. That or if I can find a crew cab 4x4 and throw a cap on it, or another tahoe/yukon and a roof carrier and hitch carrier. Saw a 80s crew cab in a field the other day that was tempting...

Re: Project "vanity Yukon"

The Yukon has been getting a workout, did 1500 miles over Christmas. Had 2 issues going into the trip, first was the cold air coming through the dash, second was a smell that made my wife's eyes burn. 400 miles and 8 hours, my wife is a trooper. Finally really looked into it, and pulled the fan motor. Found that the whole HVAC box had fallen or moved down about an inch, causing there to be about a 1" separation from the fan inlet to the fresh air inlet, so I was pulling return air yet at speed, having cold air rammed into the cab. Pushed it back up, used some duct tape on the gaps and boom that's fixed. Next was the smell, which I attributed to my inability to keep coolant above about 3/4 in the radiator. First option was replace radiator, but being 400 miles from home and seeing the rusty oil cooler lines, I took a chance on some leak b gone crap and it worked. On the way home yesterday, my wife was so comfortable and happy with the truck that she was pissed when I said I was putting it back up for sale. On to the next, holidays are over, now I need a pickup again. Trip home was through snow, rain, and just crap weather, and I really needed that suburban. Towed a 4x8 trailer stacked with crap, not doing this again. Getting a crew cab long bed with a cap before next Christmas. In the following pictures there was still so much in the truck I could barely see out the back window, 2 rolls of duct tape, a bunch of 3.5mm plastic and a tarp did work in keeping the presents dry. PA and north jersey had about an inch of snow on the roads, was in 4x4 for about 50 miles.

Re: Project "vanity Yukon"

Forgot to update about the other issues with the ABS and serp belt. I had a guy coming to look at it and pulled off the front wheels and found that 1 ABS wire had chaffed on the brake rotor and that was the cause of the ABS issue, so I replaced that it worked great. Also went to install a new serp belt but they asked if I had the high amp alternator or regular, I didnt know so I said high amp assuming I had the snow plow prep package, and that was wrong, it was too big, so I had to buy another and now that squeak is gone. The guy who looked at it was all set to buy it and then hit a damn deer in his DD and backed out at the last minute. Have another guy coming to see it today, hopefully I can get it sold and start looking for the next project. I am really heavily leaning towards getting an LB7 or 05-07 6.0 ford crew cab diesel as a permanent truck, but that wont be needed until the next big trip in the summer, so for now Im looking at 95-06 extended cab chevys again, hopefully one with the suicide door, but really hoping for a 3/4 ton or at least the F44 package.
