powder coated frame durability?

Got a question about powder-coating. will this protect my frame if i sit it outside in the elements? we get rain and a lot of sun in SC. i have my extra shortbed frame sitting in my garage taking up space currently, but i need it back soon.

Yes, but it depends. The amount of protection depends on the amount of coverage. Anything with powdercoat on it will hold up to the elements. Since the frame cross members are riveted, the powder will likely not make its way between the layered surfaces, so water/snow/salt left on those areas will eventually deteriorate the metal. That being said, my truck has seen plenty of water in those areas and has nothing more than light surface rust since it was new, so I wouldn't be worried.

Powder coating doesn't have any UV protection. The sun will chalk and fade the finish.

The right powdercoat will provide you the same resistance to UV as the most top of the line paints available. Nothing on a classic truck lasts forever

I powder coated a bunch of my stuff for my truck and wasn't really impressed with it. It looks great but the the slightest touch from anything metallic scratches the coating. Mine may not have been done properly though.

On the frame? Sun exposure might be a problem if you spend a lot of time driving with the shiny side down but then you would have more pressing problems.
