Reasonable rear diff rebuild cost?
Can anybody give me a ballpark estimate on how much a rear diff rebuild should cost for the labor only.I already purchased all the parts(new posi unit, ring and pinion, and bearings). Its a 12 bolt that's been needing a rebuild for over ten years.

Re: Reasonable rear diff rebuild cost?
Why not save on cost and do it yourself? It's not that bad of a job, did mine last year. Just took a weekend to finish. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=619265
There are a few real good tutorials floating around for rebuilding 12 bolts.

Re: Reasonable rear diff rebuild cost?
Thanks for the reply bad70,but to be honest I am not that great at wrenching. I can do some light stuff, but have seen this done and don't think I would attempt it for fear of screwing it up!I have a friend who will be doing the swap for me,but he never charges me what he should. That is the reason I am trying to figure out a ballpark figure ,so I can pay him what's fair.

Re: Reasonable rear diff rebuild cost?
I paid $240 in labor to have mine put together. In total it cost me about $1500 for housing, gears, eaton posi, moser axles, bearings, and seals, etc. But just $240 for the parts install.

Re: Reasonable rear diff rebuild cost?
About the same experience as hilltop,, $1000-$1200 with new axles, Eaton Posi, gears, axles.
$250 to assemble is a good deal. I sure as heck wouldn't do anything GM for a penny less than $250.
