Re: Garage or no? Curious how folks' trucks hold up outside.
'Rustchecking' is basically the application of the product 'rustcheck' (or 'Krown') to your vehicle to not only prevent rust but also to stop it in its tracks. (see link below)
Back in the eastern part of Canada around the rust belt area of the Great lakes it is a dealer driven service that you take your vehicle for once a year. Not cheap ($100+)...but not easy to do either and when you get your vehicle back it is VERY well protected from the salt, moisture, etc. I used to live in Toronto, Ontario which is where I started using it. Right now tho' we now live in southwest B.C which is mostly a rain based environment like Seattle in the pacific northwest and a result they don't offer it as a service out here...just a purchased product. Regardless, that moisture is still there and even tho' we don't get any snow to speak of....we get a boatload of rain and dampness. So out here, I buy about 3-4 spray cans of this, put on some old clothes, a hat and start spraying up from beneath in all the nooks and crannies (cab supports, upper back ledge of the box, inside the doors, inside the rocker panels, under the hood, down the cowl areas, pull the (2) sun visor grip brackets off and spray within the roof cavity along the front edge, every box join point, sheet metal join point, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc)....use up all those cans. The entire process can take a couple of hours depending on how you are set up. Its a very interesting chemical...It has 'creep' agents that allow it to really penetrate in to a lot of the untended joints...very important...and all sorts of rust prevention, etching, moisture chasers, etc in it. Anyhow, I have never had rust come back or grow on my vehicles....and I'll keep doing that process every year because I hate rust, don't know too much about bodywork and its always nicer to work on a 'rustfree' vehicle when it comes to turning bolts etc...lol Some people complain about the product dripping for a few days (its pink and looks like transmission fluid)...but that is no problem for me. I would never store a vehicle away around here without it. I highly recommend it....my two bits. All Good Coley http://www.rustcheck.com/
