I am in the process of a frame off on my 70 SWB 4x4. I have the tear down completed, and it's time to begin the fun part, the rebuild! I am having the frame blasted and painted black, but I am considering choosing a few undercarriage parts to have them powdercoating yellow to match the color I will be painting the body just to add a splash of color underneath. Currently considering the spring shackles, and the driveshafts. Has anyone else done this? This is my dream truck, I searched for it for about 5 years before I found one with all the options in good enough condition to hassle with and once the build is over I will never sell this truck, so resale factor is of no concern to me. If you have any pics I would love to see them.

Start going to a lot of car shows,get on your back and look underneath what people have done with there rides. Taking a camera with is a must.Start forming ideas. Down load your pix to your computer. Make different folders so you can reference them later.Such as, one for engine, one for cab, one for undercarriage and so on. Hope this helps. Best of luck.

In thinking back to my build I undercoated the cab, bed, fenders with black kevlar bed lining. Were I to do this over, I'd use a tinted undercoating to match the body color, which is more-or-less how the trucks left GM with exposed paint. In retrospect, I'd like to see the undersurface of the bed a matching orange, which would stand out nicely against the black frame and suspension parts. Good luck with your build. Nice to know another 4wd is being rebuilt.

Is your truck going to be a driver or a show type truck?

If a driver I would rethink the yellow unless you plan on being under it a lot cleaning.

Build it to what you like! Accenting body colour with the frame is cool and definitely turns some heads no doubt! I have just rebuilt my chassis's suspension and couldnt be any happier with what I did with the springs and plus, it's a daily driver! Shocks and driveshaft will be up next Heres a picture, the frame was done with por-15 (very tough) and the springs were done with a Rustoleum John Deere Yellow

Having flashbacks to jacked up cars with spray bombed rear ends often in strange colors like gold or bright green.
Then the trucks with a multitude of shock, stabilizer and driveshaft boots that started in red and went to pink and lime greens.
Or how about the the leaf spring jackets of vinyl, anyone remember those?

Do what you want but less is more and anything is harder to keep clean than a chassis black.

Do remember a beautiful Brockway dump truck with an all white frame and undercarriage though. Can't imagine what it took to keep clean in service.

But GM was big on showing off features in the brochures with accent colors.

I actually did the opposite. I painted my frame a Lexus Silver and painted the accents black.

That's clean. I like it. I'm gonna have to think about that on the camaro.
