I'm doing it by myself. I already have the whole front clip loose but it's raining now and will be tomorrow too. I'm pretty sure it'll be easy going straight in with the whole front end off. Might have to do it in installments during the week after work.

I for one do everything the hard way .. normally the worst part of the job is the bellhousing bolts ... other than that I have always changed them by myself .... I had a customer that ran his truck in the mud and I would change clutches a couple times a year, the engine came out in half an hour, and then back in in three quarters of an hour...
Never once pulling the nose off the crank..

It shure makes cleaninig up the frame and painting it so much easier. Ive did it both ways. I once changed out a 292 six in a 66 3/4 ton in less than 4 hours. I left the sheet metal on and left the bellhousing and trans in the truck. However pulling the front clip is very rewarding for the little bit of work it requires. My 55 chevy car gets the front cap removed every time I change the engine.

Ok You correct. The 292 I changed in 4 hours was for a customer. Most here are hobbist. We are doing this for fun. and we generally want to clean and paint the frame ect. we also might want to change out the old rotten rubber fender seals and attack potential rust & other issues. Simply put If for a customer Il not mess with any thing or or turn any bolt not necessary. If its mine the front sheet metal is coming off.

Pull the front clip something like 10 bolts and then everything is open

all my 64-66's have 37. 10 of which is the hood and bumper. 39 actually but i assume the radiator is already out anyway.
some don't come out very easily being old and corroded.

The bumper doesn't have to come off. I think the members that added pictures are doing more than just the engine R&R.
