4x4 Spindle Nut Tool #?

I've got to take my front hubs/rotors off this weekend to get to the gravel shields and re-attach them better than the shop guys did last year. Pretty solid on how to do it. Only question is, anyone have a definite part number, from any supplier, for the spindle nut socket I need for a '72 K10, D44 front axle? I know it's four-prong. There are a few out there and it looks like 1/2 ton version may be different from 3/4 ton. Don't want to buy the wrong thing.

Also, tried renting one from Autozone and the part number that shows, photo- and description-wise, the tool that looks like it would work actually corresponds with a completely different tool. The clerk and I went round and round for a solid 30 minutes on this. Would be interesting to see if someone else has this problem at an Autozone somewhere else in the world...

If you have an autozone close, I think the correct part number is 27076. In my experience the dana 44 1/2 and 3/4 ton spindle nuts are the same.

Re: 4x4 Spindle Nut Tool #?

Just did my locking hubs last week, called Lisle, they make the tool. Part number i bought was 27400, but was told by a 4X4 shop that a 27250 would work

Tool that i bought has inside and outside drive teeth, it was 35.00

Don t forget the locking ring can be flipped over, so you can align closer to you re torque setting
We are talking 1/2 ton, right? The 6 bolts on the locking hub 35 IN./ LBS., so may have to rent a torque wrench while you re there

Re: 4x4 Spindle Nut Tool #?

Thanks for all the replies... you'd think any auto parts store would have what I needed, but while Autozone's system claimed they had 2 of the correct tool, when we went out on the floor and tracked it down, the part number in question (25206, four-prong spindle nut socket) actually was a completely different, regular six-flat socket. Looked high and low through all the spindle nut tools, out front and in back, and the clerk just ended up saying "go somewhere else". Did rent a torque wrench while there, though, for the bearing adjustment.

Off to Napa this morning... thanks again, everyone!
