what my driveway would be looked like in 1972

I took this picture on Christmas Day this year. Just like I was living in the early 70's.

I am just wondering, what are the vertical bars on the bumper of the truck? Are they just for looks?

Well the goat is for sale, but unfortunately if I get rid of it it would have to be for a bundle of Benjamins. I actually have more fun driving my pickups than the GTO.

I have seen them on several pickups, I don't know if they're a factory option. Can anyone help us on that.

That is actually the first time I've seen them on a 67-72, I've seen them on square bodies before though, I like the look

Re: what my driveway would be looked like in 1972

I love the picture! As far as the "vertical bars" go, they are bumber guards. They were a factory option on all 67-72 trucks. The 67-70 bumber guards were a lower profile (shorter) than the 71-72. And yes, the squarebodies had them as well, but they are specific to years based on the curvature of the bumper.

Re: what my driveway would be looked like in 1972

I might have to try and track some of them down for when I get a truck, I am going to look at a beechnut yellow 72 long bed 3/4 ton this weekend. Wish me luck!

Re: what my driveway would be looked like in 1972

bumper guards are an accessory sold through the GM accessory program as well as in the aftermarket. Vehicles have run them about as long as there have been bumpers. Styles change with the vehicles. 88-98s went to just rubber and short. The 71-87 style as shown are the same, except for fit due to 3 different bumpers

Re: what my driveway would be looked like in 1972

Wow, I haven't been to that town in awhile. If I am remembering the correct town, I spent a bunch of money in an antique store on the left when you pull into town. I bet that was 20 yrs ago.
Good to see we are getting a few more SD members on here.

Hey, you weren't driving that GTO down in Black Hawk/Piedmont area a few weeks ago were ya?
