Sometimes when I get to a point with a engine problem (timing or fuel) and can't determine the cause, I will break out the ole Edelbrock and bolt it on to see what changes occur. They are easier to tune. But, remember a Edelbrock is a square bore and a Q-jet is a spread bore. You will need a adapter plate or a square bore intake manifold.
I run edelbrock air gap manifolds and 1" spacers

Re: Quadrajet or Quadra-throw out the dang window!!

If you can find a good "virgin" Quadrajet that has never been messed with/messed up by somebody that don't know what they're doing, then rebuild it correctly, they are one of the best carburetors that has ever been built. The problem is that they haven't been produced in many years and most of the available cores are either completely worn out or butchered up beyond repair. For a daily driver, I would just get a new Edlebrock 1406 for about $300, bolt it on and go. All the ones I have ever used are extremely reliable and run fine straight out of the box.

Not to start any arguments. I understand many like them. Those Edelbrock AFB clones make me cringe.

That makes 2 of us. Again... I know cats swear by them. But you couldn't pay me to use one.
