Chrome forum search - my gift to you!

If you're like me, the first place you often wind up searching for an issue related to our trucks is this forum. To make like easier, I came up with a way to "build in" truck forum search into Chrome. It's kinda technical but I'll do it in baby steps.

When you're done, truck forum search appears in Chrome like the photo at the end (look down there to see if you want to bother). When you're done, from Chrome at any point, you can use it thusly:

Type trucks in your address bar
Press tab
It magically says "Search 67-72 Trucks:"
Type whatever
Just these forums are searched for 'whatever'

Here are the steps

Open Chrome Settings
Look at the Search section about 4 sections in
Click on "Manage search engines..."
Scroll down to the very bottom where there are empty boxes
In those three boxes, enter the following. I really recommend copy/paste as you'd never type it accurately.

If it disappears while you're working on it if you click elsewhere, it likely moved up to the top of the list of "Other search engines" you were working in because "67" comes first alphabetically, so it bumps up top.

First Box:
67-72 Trucks

Second Box:
trucks

Third Box:
https://www.google.com/search?as_q=%...hevytrucks.com

To use it:

Click on your address bar.
Type trucks
Press tab

It'll automagically know to say "Search 67-72 Trucks:" now as you type. When you click enter, whatever you typed will be search for, and just on these forums.

Re: Chrome forum search - my gift to you!

Hi Dave, hope you don't mind me adding this. I don't have Chrome so i just use Google on my FireFox..

I just type 67-72chevytrucks into Google with a key word, lets use "ball joints"

67-72chevytrucks ball joints

It brings up this result:

https://www.google.com/search?newwin...39.4_ONzZIHX18

Look at the first post, at the bottom it also lists 4 more posts from this group, below that it also lists see more posts from 67-72chevytrucks.com, click that and read away.

I have been doing this for a number of years now, pretty powerful search result.

Re: Chrome forum search - my gift to you!

or you can just type (if we're searching for ball joints):

ball joints site:67-72chevytrucks.com

And it will search this site for anything with ball joints. You can use this with any website, just replace 67-72chevytrucks.com with the website you want to search. More typing involved, but more versatile I guess

Re: Chrome forum search - my gift to you!

Indeed you can, but I only wanted to type it once and I search here a lot, so making the browser shortcut thing works for me. But if you had the sudden urge to search Ford, then site:Ford.com does that just as you say.
