Can a late model stepside bed be used on a 64?
I'm thinking of picking up a 64 swb that has the original stepside bed on it now. It is in rough shape so the seller is including a newer bed circa 75-79 (I'm guessing). I would like to use the newer bed but install the original fenders & steps on it to keep the correct look. I'm guessing they are the same dimensions but obviously the holes would be in the wrong places.
Does anyone know if I can use the newer bed with the original fenders & steps? Any info is appreciated. Thanks Scott

I know its been done before. Seen it. You know you could get reproduction long bed panels I believe, might be a little easier than trying to drill holes over hols already there.

Re: Can a late model stepside bed be used on a 64?
Scott,Mine had a 73-87 bed on it when i got it,the later bed is the same outside dimensions, but You will have about a 2 1/4 inch gap between step and bedside. The later bed also has a small lip in front of the wheel that will not let the fender sit flush with the side of the bed.I drove mine that way for about a year and a half, you can grind that lip off right where the fender goes if You want so it wont squeak.I bought a correct bed and put on mine.Hope this helps.

Re: Can a late model stepside bed be used on a 64?
Thanks appreciate everyones help. Doesn't look like I will be buying the truck after all. Went to see it & asked him his best price. Called seller the next day to tell him I would meet his price, but now he is waiting for other interested parties to see it, that was over a week ago. Not sure why someone would put a price on something then not accept it. I don't work that way, but guess others do.
