will new leaf spring raise my front end
Hello all
I have a 79 k10 that sits kinda low in the front My front leafs are quite flat if not in the negative, it has 2 on the front and a whopping 7 on the rear. So I am wondering if putting new leafs on the front and upgrading to 3 leafs will level it out. I'm sure having 7 on the rear is not stock. Am I barking up the wrong tree on this ? Thanks Chris |

Thanks pano
general spring is exactly who am looking at for replacements and i think your pictures helped a lot, looking at the space you have on the fenders and the tires is what I'm hopping to gain just a couple of inches at most, wanting some 33x12.50 to get under there |

Re: will new leaf spring raise my front end
Springs are naturally meant to dearch to allow for a more comfortable ride in the truck. With that said anytime you replace springs you will find that you do gain height as the old springs are tired and worn.
You have to think some of these trucks are running 40 year old or more springs. |

Re: will new leaf spring raise my front end
New leafs might raise it up a little but you could also do a 2 inch lift.

Re: will new leaf spring raise my front end
I had the same problem with my 80 k10. While I was working on the rear end I found a cracked rear spring, I am pretty sure they were 7 leafs as well. I replaced the rear springs, and that really made the front look low. It wasn't to much more money to just order up a 2" lift from rough country, than just replace the front springs. It came with new shocks also, and now it clears 33/12.5/15s easy, and has the beefy stock look I was going for. It also rides much better than it did with the stock springs.

Re: will new leaf spring raise my front end
You could always hit a junkyard for extra front leaves. (just don't go overboard)
Mock it up and see what you have. What you have on there sounds about right. 35 years of use have kinda "influenced" them. Front springs were flat or a negative arch from the factory. The 3/4 ton also got 2 front leaves, 1 ton 3. General statement as there I've seen the 3/4 with 3 and the half with 1.... My old K-20 I ran with a 3rd leaf, I was more interested in handling the weight of the plow blade rather than lift. 4 leaves were too stiff and almost undriveable, front end would only drop less than an inch with the blade up. EDIT, my profile pic, the truck had 3 leaves then. Junkyard leaves, but 3...

Re: will new leaf spring raise my front end
Well new leafs went on with basic troubles had to cut the front bolt's as I'm sure everyone does, the old rubber just didn't want to let go.
But it did level out my front end, and I'm happy with the results. Sorry about the first picture it was darker than I thought when I took it. |
