700R4 driveshaft question

Hey guys,
I got the 700r4 installed in my 72 lwb but now the issue is the 2 piece drive-shaft that came with the new trans. The section between the trans and carrier bearing cross member is shorter..can I just move the cross member like I did for the trans? What's the best way to measure how much to have removed from the back section of drive shaft?

Thanks

Re: 700R4 driveshaft question

just switched my sm trany to a 2004r in my 67 , I just cut the front shaft down and had a driveshaft shop weld and balance it ,, it is completly diferant than yours though ,, the carrier bearing mounts to th bottom of the crossmember with a flat bracket that is riveted to the two empty holes in your picture , my truck is a coil spring truck so the swing arms connect there also . A one piece driveshaft is and option for you also as the 700r4 is longer therefor making your driveshaft shorter ,, posably within the length of an inexpensive one piece ,, i think around 59 inches ,, longer than that and they start wanting you to start useing 3 1/2 inch diameter shafts

Re: 700R4 driveshaft question

I did the same with the 700 in my Longhorn. I had the front shaft shortened at the slip yoke end. Rebalanced and rock and roll.

Re: 700R4 driveshaft question

So the slip yoke end is easiest to shorten?
