Wood over steel bed
New guy from Upstate SC. I have a 71 SWB wide bed. Question, anyone have any pictures of a steel bed covered with wood? Looking for ideas. PO put bed liner on steel, trying to cover it up instead of sandblasting it off.

Mine's not for everybody. But for $50.....? Real wood over a bedliner. Comes out in 5 minutes for serious garbage hauling. Back in .... less than 15 minutes (the pieces are numbered).... 12 sheet metal screws through aluminum trim.

Re: Wood over steel bed
That looks nice. Tell us a little more about it. What materials, how you went about it etc.

Re: Wood over steel bed
RAT wears a rain hat on her bed. Just during the winter. Or, on those rides that require some "out of sight/out of temptation" shopping trips.
The tonneau securely rolls up right behind the rear window like a cowboy's bed roll by one person when a surprise carry is required. And, if her "hat" (tonneau) is hanging out in the garage and RAT can't sleep inside, she has a blanket (good cover) for the night. If rain's coming, it gets propped up in the center of the bed. For looks, I don't like running a tonneau. However, for the season and any "special" time, the whole tonneau set up, rails and all, come off in ten minutes. I don't have a ton of dough. So, having the wood available from a floor covering in the house by The Boss, and already having the tonneau, I did this a couple or three years ago...no harm, no foul. Two aluminum strips (1) fore and (1) aft, twelve screws, a cut-off and a jig saw, tape measure, and a drill, a magic marker (to number the pieces) and pencil. Four hours. Done deal. If I get a scratch, a Minwax Wood Finish marker in the correct color ends the drama. Left for three days at a time in 100 plus degree full sun hasn't been an issue. Like I said, the look and/or care level isn't for everyone. I'd much rather have a stock wood floor...But, as we used to say, "run what ya brung".....

Re: Wood over steel bed
nothing wrong with laminated wood. good original idea never thought of that. probably be easy to put the steel rails like a standard wood bed.
