How's your truck on MPG's?
Hi Everyone 47 to 59 Chevy truck...
I am waist deep in a 1952/53 Chevy truck rebuild...mostly stock excepting rear differential and braking system....not sure I will be able to drive it as much as I want as I have been told low teens is all I will be able to muster out of it..So I thought I would throw out the question to all you other 47-59 Chevy truck guys... How is your beast of the miles per gallon front? I don't wanna feel alone out there... Thanks for sharing... MikeC |

20 mpg @ 75 mph; ramjet 350, 700r4 and 3.27 rearend
depending on what gear you used you might get 12-15 mpg or 7 mpg

Re: How's your truck on MPG's?
I'll be interested in this thread myself. I've only recently gotten my '59 (235, 3 on the tree, 3.90 rear) on the road and am on my 3rd tank of gas. I've run out of gas once already...and I'm tracking this tank and will reply later with a number. Mike C, so far - I can believe the teen number you toss out there.

Re: How's your truck on MPG's?
'55 2nd short bed, 400 Pontiac with Muncie 4speed, and stock 3:90 gears, no overdrive, 10.5 mpg in stop and go traffic (60 mile round trip to my daughters) Last time I checked it on the hiway, I got 14.5 mpg from my house to Beaumont and back.

Re: How's your truck on MPG's?
Recent 325 mile interstate trip, stock 307 (Edelbrock 2101 intake, 600 Holley), TH-350, 3:08 gear, cruise control set on 65, netted me 18.0 MPG. I must admit I so wanted to mash the gas several times. LOL

I'm expecting 17 to 18 highway, '47 COE 4.8L/4L60E 3.42:1 with 245/75/16 E load rated tires @ 80 PSI. I will know for sure in the next 2 weeks.

Re: How's your truck on MPG's?
Reporting back - my last tank was 10.5 mpg - about 1/3 around town and 2/3 highway commute.
That overdrive upgrade dancing in my head is looking better all the time!

Re: How's your truck on MPG's?
Not long after we got the 48 together with the 250, 3 speed and Nova rear gears? but 2 something I think we pulled a steady 20 on a road trip to Sisters Oregon for a car show. The truck wasn''t a powerhouse but would buzz along for hours on end on the highway and constantly give that mileage.

Re: How's your truck on MPG's?
Here on this side of the world, we have not the same measurement rules as you, but the latest one was 18l/100km on secondary roads mainly to go to work. Trip is 14km to go there.
Comparing with my modern german SUV, it's 3 times more with the Chevy ! but the joy to drive the Chevy is 100 times more, so no discussion. My today's way is to don't calculate anymore. When it needs gasoline, just go to the petrol station. Actual price per liter is 1.35€ so it's a big cost for the pleasure.

Re: How's your truck on MPG's?
15-16 on highway. It used to be 12 until I converted the transfer case to part time so front axle and drive line are not turning. 8-12 mpg off road depending on terrian. That was with the 283 engine, hopefully the 350 will not be any worse, or payment better with the hei, etc. If it turns out to be painful I will do a swap to an overdrive transmission.

Re: How's your truck on MPG's?
I find a conversion table for L/100km to mpg. It gives 13-14 on secondary roads for me. 14km means 8.7mi.
Complicated these dimensions différences

Re: How's your truck on MPG's?
Hey PDW
If get those numbers I will be driving it for sure...if all I get is mid to low teens it will be parked and used as an investment...probably sitting on blocks too....these things are better than money in the bank if you play your cards right... MikeC |
