Bedside Tool Box Help

I have no key and lock is stuck(key blank wont go into the lock). Any Ideas of how to get access to tool box?

the box behind it might be able to be taken out from the back.. maybe drill out the screws holding it to the bed... just climb under there and look around and see if you see a point of access...

I have the same problem. I was gonna drill it but instead I called a lock smith and was quoted 60 for re-keying it. I hope when he opens it there will be some goodies inside.

No access from the back side (unless box is broken/cut out), the inner box mounts through door opening with mounting lip of box screwed to recessed bed flange which is then covered by edges of outer door when shut. If the truck is fairly original, an original ign/door key may fit tool door lock but given the fact that you have probably already tried it, maybe the ignition or door locks or both may have been changed? A few years back I got in a survivor 72 cheyenne that had the tool door locked up tight, the ignition key would'nt work the main door locks or the tool door lock, I removed one of the main door locks and took it to a local locksmith and he was able to make a key off of some numbers found on the lock cyl. and by chance it also un-locked the tool/stowage door lock. What if I have the key, but the handle has broken off? All that's there is a rod at the top going across horizontally, passing through two metal tabs in the center. I know this is an old thread, but it's the most relevant that came up in my search results

I'd be pulling out my drill and drilling out the lock itself. But I'm sure Lockdoc may have a better solution.

The lock is completely seperate from the handle and prevents the lock bolt from retracting. This is a positive locking mechanism which means if you can't get the lock cylinder to turn you are probably not going to get it open without damaging something...

I have been working on GM locks since 1977 and the sidebar lock cylinder (used unchanged since 1935) is the hardest lock to crack of almost any automotive lock. Nearly impossible to impression, nearly impossible to pick.

If the locksmith has a set of tryout keys he may be able to go through those and get it open but there are 150 keys in the tryout set and it takes a while to try all of them. That didn't work for me...

On a side note, does the ignition key for your truck work in your door locks?

I would insert the nozzle from a can of penetrating oil (not WD-40) into the key hole and spray the crap out of the inside of the lock cylinder then try the key again, wiggling it as you insert it.

My square ignition key also operates the door locks, and the circular key fits the tool box. The lock to that box turns and seems to function normally, but the handle has broken off.

My keys don't work either (ignition key fits though), but behind the door is a second gas tank, so not sure which actually belongs there.

Yankin the tool box and stuffing an additional fuel tank behind it isn't undeard of. My PO actually did that and, unfortunately, welded sheet metal over the opening... Ugh. Anyhoo. Dealer installed saddle tanks went exactly where the box would go, if someone installed saddle tanks. The tool box portion from a member on the board on the parts section, if you want to re-install it. They come up every once in awhile. But, if you'd prefer the extra gas, don't toucha nothing. If it has a tank there you may be able to reach up behind the door and remove the retaining clip that holds the lock in the door. You can see what it looks like in the picture below. If you remove the clip the lock cylinder will come out. When you get the lock cylinder out you can take it to a locksmith and have a key made for it or have it keyed to your ignition key.
