Seal your floor - How I did it

Now that my floor pan is all welded up, painted and sealed I have decided to seal my floor with a sound deadening. So on my beer budget means cool products that are expensive are out.

In an effort to help give a little to the folks here who posted a lot great information and helped me out I'll try to pass on my little bit.I read a bunch of post here about going to Home Depot and Lowes and getting a rubber sticky mat of various flavors. My process was pretty straight forward. Clean the floor and remove grease/debris. The product in question is known to me as "Ice Guard" for your roof and at my Home Depot comes in 6" wide strips at 25 feet long for 18 bucks with tax. Two rolls got my floor sealed up to the gas tank. I may buy some more to wrap the front of the tank but it comes out nice. Not too bad. A warm garage and a something to work the rubber mat into the nooks and crannies is required. I used the butt end of an old screw driver that was pretty smooth. Nuff Said. Thread suck with out pics.



And the result.


I threw down a bit of aluminum foil tape around the foot well areas to help cover any seams that seemed a bit too wide, talking 1/16". This stuff is forgiving but the more time you take laying down the stuff in an orderly fashion the better the end results.

I just used a similar product from lowes to do my floor. will you put carpet down next or will you use a padding before the carpet?

I have a carpet with padded insulation I picked up here on the forum. I should have added that there were no fumes or off gassing from the product. My rattle cans of primer are far worse in smell. Should make for a decent ride once finished. I can't wait to drive this truck!

I'm going back to a rubber floor mat. I like the durability. I really wonder how well this would hold up under everyday conditions. I'm in if there's someone that's tried it and was successful with it

This would go UNDER the carpet or the rubber floor mat.

I used something similar on my 66 Skylark. Got it at Home Depot. I think it was called "Frost King" duct insulation. Comes 12" wide by 15' long

I bought and installed a sound deadener kit from one of the big boys (expensive) for my 67 Chevelle. I was a little short so I also went to the big box store and bought this exact same material. I think there is not that much difference between the two and will use this same type of ice dam product from now on.
Seems fine to me.

How thick is this stuff? Looks great and I bet it really quiets down a lot of the noise?

I did something similar with my 69 Mustang. I used this stuff first (from Lowes).

Then I used spray adhesive to attach a layer of this.

Carpet went on next and it seems to have worked really well.

I couldn't give you an exact dimension as to the thickness. I'm certain Dynamat or Fatmat or some commercial product are thicker but the cost are not in the budget. I am working a clean nice driver. There is something cool about the Fatmat logo everywhere on the floor but its cost.... eeewww

i used that product under my seat and fat mat on the floor boards didn't notices any difference in smell or heat transfer.
