If you look around you'll find a couple of people.. but for $400 and the cost of shipping I'd rather get a 66 dash or a 72 dash and weld it in.

I just don't want that style in an 73-87, doesn't look right, plus I just would use it as reference and probably build my own. Plus it'll make it nice having it removable, welded in kinda make its hard when dealing with ac components and stuff.

Stock dash is welded in as well. If your are going to build your own then just fabricate something.

That's what I did; built my own. Steel frame behind supporting a wood face, which is stained and varnished. But the diy4x dash interests me.

A sheet metal dash is cool in a race truck or off roader,But a street truck or show truck i would use something else. Some have used the 60s chevy dash and it looked pretty good installed and painted.

Oh no no this won't be in a street truck, more of an offroad truck and besides I Love the look of it, I think it's awesome. In my opinion, I hate dash swaps. Only stock or custom for me

Re: Anybody used the Aluminum Dashboard from DIY4X?

The concept is good, but buying and installing all of the aftermarket parts (gauges, A/c vents, etc.) would be very pricey.

i want a replica of the original dash made of a hard (non-crackable) material, like some fiberglass ones that have been fabricated by forum members. Steel would be better, in my opinion, so that it could be easily painted to match the interior. I have a plastic cap on my which is junk - lots of cracks soon after installation.

If you do buy the dash are you going to paint or have it wrapped? If you want some crazy colors or designs wrap it or hydro dipped.

I've looked into it, I'd spend about 1k on it all said and done, I don't let anybody work on my truck but me so no labor costs

as far as the stock dash, if I decide to keep it I'm just gonna fiberglass over it, I still have the stock dash in it, not too bad just two cracks really.

Hmmm that depends on how it turns out, kinda thought about just clearing over it and leaving the natural finish, I love the way metal looks. But personally I'm not big on crazy designs.

Dashes are padded these days so that when your face hits it, less damage is done to the face...

While this is true in our trucks you'll face smash the steering wheel long before you even get close to the dash LOL.

And even with that.. 3/4 of the dashes in our truck is metal anyways.
