Th400 and NP205

School me on these inputs and such. I have a th400 with 203 now and have a line on a np205 with th400 adapter. I know the 203 th400's had short outputs on trans and therefore wont fit in the 205 correct? Is there a longer input shaft to get for the 205 to mate to the short output th400?

Basically is my only option to change output on trans or is there something else besides getting a whole setup with 205?

Re: Th400 and NP205

On my 400/205 setup, the trans is just a short shaft 400, with the tailshaft housing removed. If I ever need to replace it, any short shaft 400 will work. Try checking with OffRoad Design. They probably know of any and all 400/205 install parts that exist.

Re: Th400 and NP205

also the 205 needs to have the bigger bearing put in it if its not a 205 off a th400. th350 is 27 spline and th400 is 31 or 32 spline

Re: Th400 and NP205

The TH400/NP203 combination wasn't very common, and is valuable in the offroad crowd (not REALLY valuable, but valuable enough that you wouldn't have a problem selling it). It's the shortest option to mate a TH400 to a 203/205 double transfer case.

Re: Th400 and NP205

Look at the bolt pattern of the 205 or trans adaptor. Late, say 85 or so are round 6 bolt.
TH400 means 32 spline and big bearing in the 205
Short 32 inputs to the 205 are rare.

Re: Th400 and NP205

A th400 with a 203 has a 203 only output shaft. a 205 replacement will need to have the 9" output shaft installed in the trans, 400 205 adapter as well as the corresponding big bearing 32 spline 205.

Re: Th400 and NP205

Yea well just picked up a combo last week that has both the trans and 205 already together so may just rebuild that trans and keep the 203 and 400 I already have working as a spare for whatever.

Did notice this new setup has a TH475 trans and not a th400. Never heard of em before until I looked em up. If its not totally shot I'll use it. If it is I'll use the output shaft only. Time will tell as its gonna be awhile until I get to it.

Re: Th400 and NP205

I didn't realize the TH475 was ever used in trucks, 2 or 4wd. Very interesting to know.

Re: Th400 and NP205

Yea havent found out for sure if they were as the interwebs are full of bullshyt so cant trust anything. As far as I know I dont see why they couldnt line up with a 205 since its basically same trans as th400 with straight cut gears and bigger planetarys from what Im told. Either way got both for $350 so Im not complaining...lol. Still mated together as well.

Re: Th400 and NP205

That is a really good price. I was happy to find the TH400/NP205 combo I have for $500 complete shifter to kickdown
