Widening stock wheels to 9-10"
Does anyone widen stock steel wheels?
If yes any concern over strength, balancing or safety? |

Re: Widening stock wheels to 9-10"
I have seen a couple of sets that Stockton Wheel has done. They ran true as good as anything. Both sets had reused centers only pressed and welded in to new hoops. I havent seen a set that was cut and had a band welded in to widen. Not sure how those are. There is a few different places that do this. Pete Paulsen is another I believe.
Let us know how you make out.

Re: Widening stock wheels to 9-10"
This has been don't many times over the years so I don't believe there is any worries about safety. Your options to get them are to buy them change the shells or cut and weld in extensions. Last I checked prices were kinds all over the place. I was trying to go with new shells. To get shells with 13.25 Id was 74 bucks each and 3-4 weeks to know if the supplier would even have them available. By the time you figure in powder coating after building them the saving didn't seem to justify it. buying them from someone like wheel Vintiques seemed to be a better option.
