Big OUCH

While parked on the street next to the house, my '70 K-10 got hit by a teenage kid going too fast in the snow.

After battling it out with the insurance company (they only wanted to give me $1500 to total my "45 year-old" truck) it's fixed now. While the body shop had it, I had them replace both rocker panels and repair some bubbling along the roof gutter.
Between the $6400 from the insurance company and what I've spent, I've got almost $8000 in the repairs.

Yeah, I suppose he did. Now, the only body parts from the original truck (restored in 2007) are the tailgate and the hood emblem! Everything else is either from a donor vehicle (cab and doors) or new!

Why is it still parked on the street? I would think you would have it in the drive way are in the garage.

Cause he doesn't want the oil slick on the driveway. Mine lives on a big piece of cardboard in the garage

It got hit on the street next to the house. Now, it's parked in the culdesac in front of the house!

I've replaced the oil pan and power steering system. Hopefully, no more leaks!
We'll see!

Glad you got it fixed. How did you get the insurance company to give you the fair value of the truck? My luck would be that they'd of said I was 20% at fault for parking on the street.

I was pretty lucky. The first agent that looked at it (from the kid's insurance)wanted to give me the $1500. After protesting rather loudly, I got bumped up a couple of levels to higher management.

When I explained I'd done a body-off-frame restoration in 2007, they finally agreed that it was a classic deserving of full cost repairs.

Having had the experience, I compiled a list of the parts I needed to replace and provided that to a hot-rod shop. (Because of the age, I couldn't find a standard body shop to touch it.) He added in his cost for labor, and the insurance company paid the full amount.

My out of pocket was about $1600 total. That included the rocker panels and repairing the bubbling around the cab gutter.
