New build 70 c10 swb fleet side(shocks and Bushings)
The name for the build comes from the fact that is what I am telling my wife. All I am doing is replacing my shocks and bushings. Lucky for me she has not asked me once how much money I have put into this project. I have done everything myself from sandblasting to body work to painting. Its not a show truck just replacing my shocks and bushings.
I have been watching this site since I started my build and got a lot of great ideas. Thought it about time to start documenting my build. Little history is I acquired this from a friend with a lot of good stuff done (crate 350 with 700r4 thorley headers and exhaust done, flaming river steering column, gas tank for under the bed was not mounted.) think that is about it. I got the truck in December 2012 and started tearing apart I had two weeks off and in that time had the truck completely striped apart sandblasted frame, front end, and rear end then applied POR 415 to everything looked good. Put 5 lug disk brakes and all new parts in the front end and put back on frame. The rear end I swapped with the friend I got the truck from because he needed my gears for his truck and I needed his. I took my rear and put a true trac posi and it has 3:73 with 5 lug of course. Bodywork went good but a lot of work. had a friend help me we spent 3 weeks ( nights and weekends) with cab, doors, and fenders. Smoothed the fire wall replaced rockers inner and outer on one side just outer on the other side and had a bunch of holes to fill in. This was a none A/C cab I cut all my vents for A/C(because I got vintage A/C) wife don't know yet. Where I am at now. I (me and a friend) painted the cab, doors, and fenders last weekend (don't have pictures yet) still in the sanding and buffing faze of new paint job. I will add more as I think of what I missed. Here are a few pics P.S. still have not replaced any shocks or bushings |

more Pics. The guy in the brown shirt is my buddy I got the truck from( he has cost me a lot of money) and the fenders are color choices that I did not use. the last two are my home made paint booth.

Thanks. My plan is to get the cab, doors, and front on for the winter. Then I can wait till the weather allows for the bed and hood.

Subscribing. Good looking build. The truck is my excuse to drink beer in the garage. Of course it appears I drink more beer than work on the truck.

slowcpe I am thinking the beer bill will end up being more than the build itself thanks for the replies |

Re: New build 70 c10 swb fleet side(shocks and Bushings)
So I have not posted in awhile but have spent a few quality nights weekends and days working on my truck finally. What really got me motivated was my son.
Seams like one problem after another what do you do. Making progress slowly. Started it after sitting for 2.5 years fired right up. Think its running rich gas smell out the exhaust is bad so I have been researching that and playing with it. RPM drop way down and want to stall when put in gear. Charged A/C system ran motor for little bit then changed oil, trans fluid and have flushed radiator couple of times still dirty but getting better. Think I'm really close wiring is done gauges are in and operational AND I finally got all my Shocks and Bushings in. For the bad news my seats were supposed to be delivered today not sure what happened but I just told them to hold and I will pick them up at the FedEx location. With any luck maybe take a road test by end of week. Anyway just a little update with a few pics. |

Re: New build 70 c10 swb fleet side(shocks and Bushings)
Well think tomorrow is the day tell all. Time to take it on the road see how the truck runs long time in the making.
Got the carpet and seats in(not bolted down) rest of the dash put in and all the door parts. In the morning bolt the seats put in seat belts and take a test drive. Long time in the making not a show truck but I think it turned out great. Have to say thanks to my friends for there help but mainly Travis for all the help on body and paint awesome job. Been looking into insurance that is a problem called several places but most will not insure my son and the one that would said it could only be used to go to a show no store, dinner, movies nothing that does not work. For right now just threw it on my insurance not good but all I could do. Obviously Not complete but the rest I can do while I enjoy it. |

Re: New build 70 c10 swb fleet side(shocks and Bushings)
Ok so after a big push to make the truck presentable think we are good to go its prom night.
Still have things to do need to redo exhaust need new rims and tires and figure out why the truck wants to stall in gear with AC on. But I am so happy with the way things turned out |
