I am still on the fence as far as Direct Injection on gas engines, It causes Intake valve deposits to form (quite rapidly), And are known to dilute the oil with fuel.

All EcoTec-3 engines have AFM. GM didn't have this stuff worked out in the Gen IV engines.

The first couple years of any new powertrain from any manufacturer usually has issues. The LB7 Duramax, '97/'98 LS1, '03 Dodge Hemi, 6.0L Powerstroke, 3 valve 5.4L, & Northstar are good examples.

Also keep in mind, That with swaps....There will be no manufacturer warranty. These new DI engines may turn out to be a good powertrain, But NOBODY knows yet!
I agree with you on first year power plants, I saw a lot of 03-04 6.0l Fords bought back. So far the DI gas engines are really good. They run crazy static compression ratio's, pre-ignition is a non-issue.
