Cool urgent will it break? please, help

Can I pull tow a 84 c10 swb with a 90 suburban 350tbi needing a transmission mount on the suburban?
I have to move the truck today long story, I do not know anyone with a truck.
I will just have to buy some pull straps.
It is a 14mile trip just one way. I have to move my truck today and can't afford a tow truck because I don't get paid until Friday.
As always advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I believe that suburban can handle it. And those tow ropes are strong. Of course, someone needs to be in the driver seat of that c-10.

That sounds like a recipe for some dented bumpers. I hope you can pull it off but pulling a vehicle with a tow rope is kinda tricky, especially if you've never done it before and with a lady behind the wheel. Good luck.

Re: urgent will it break? please, help

How about instead of buying tow straps and worrying about the 'burban, pick up the telephone and get someone to tow it...

Lot safer, and if anything does happen a lot cheaper.

fwiw, I gave up strap towing when I was a teenager, pushing 50 now. I save the straps for pulling objects out of the ditch.

You could pull it off in "the county" witch is true maine. But then again, Texas too. Just stay away from houstonor dallas, should be fine, go slow. Have her foot on break, ready at all times. Make sure she looks in front of the suburban as well. She'll expect the stops. Lord bless.

I pulled my C10 when I first got it with an S10. But I used a tow bar, rented. Nobody needs to ride in the towed vehicle that way.

Re: urgent will it break? please, help

If the c10 engine runs, it would be a good idea to start it up... power brakes will make it alot easier on Mom to keep the strap tight.

I have towed and been towed with straps/chains more than a few times up here in the sticks in NY.

Speaking from experience:
-Saggy chain/strap=BAD
-Tight chain/strap= GOOD
-Best use the towed vehicle to do most of the stopping if possible. Nice smooth controlled stops. Keeps the strap tight, but don't ride the brake too hard and get the brakes too hot.
-Keep speeds reasonable, don't be in a hurry.
-Straps are preferable to chains IMHO..They have a little more give and don't snap as hard when a loose strap gets tight again.

A $100 tow will be cheaper than 2 bumpers, the price of straps, and a citation. 14 miles is a long way for this method. If you don't have $100, borrow it from family or friends.

Yup, guess i would have to agree with 95 s trucker. Although, if your not going through any thickly settled areas, no stop signs, lights, etc. then you may be ok. Go slow and signal when stopping.

Re: urgent will it break? please, help

Gracious thanks to all of you. Got my mom's friend to pull it with straps, what an experience that was. First and last time ever doing that. It did bend my front bumper a little. But no big deal since I was looking at getting a bush guard bumper. I do have insurance on it, just liability. Sheriff rode on the side of us most of the way, gave no issues. Thank GOD. Truck would not run and didnt have time to poke around to see what the issue is. Having severe back pain for the last year, I have seriously neglected the truck. Off today so I will try to do as much as I can. Again many thanks bless you and yours.

Re: urgent will it break? please, help

See, now you have learned. At least it was only a bumper.

Got a neighbor with a trailer, I warned them about pulling cars with it. (Trailer has no brakes on it). Their last tow was to the scrap yard. The trailer got out of control and pushed the pull truck off the road. Luckily, no one was hurt and they didn't get cited by the policeman that saw the whole thing. Could have been a wicked expensive scrap run.

We'll, glad you made it. Praise the Lord! It's nice when those tasks are done. Take care and be safe. I'm off to fight traffic in Boston. (But not with my precious c-10, of course).
