My truck is equipped with the worst steering system I have ever driven. Guiding my vehicle is like trying to steer one of those mega ocean going oil tankers.

Does anyone make a steering sector that would significantly decrease the amount of steering wheel turns that I would have to make to get a direction change? That or a year where the sector was changed to a significantly tighter ratio.

I have what appears to me to be a "manual" steering sector mounted on the outside of the frame that operates a control valve and hydraulic ram fastened to the center link. The rest is conventional linkage.

BTW This is my first post and I would like to thank the folks who allowed me onto this site.'

Welcome to the forum Bill

What you have is the factory power assist steering. That exact same system was used on the Corvette's up until the early 80's IIRC. That system can be rebuilt to function as good as new, but it will cost.

What most '60-'66 truck owners do is convert the truck to use a truck based '68-'86 C series or '87-'91 R series integral power steering box. It is a much better design and can also be found with a quicker ratio from the aftermarket. To convert your truck you will need the power steering box and it's pitman arm, an adapter plate (make and sell those) and a manual steering draglink for a '63-'66 truck. If you plan to convert to front disc brakes, you can use the entire steering linkage from the donor truck if you choose to go that route.

Captainfab I don't suppose you have a picture of that drag link you mentioned, do you? You also mentioned an adaptor plate that evidently you sell? Could you send me a pvt message with particulars please? I am in the market as we speak for this conversion. I am very tired of rowing this "boat".
