fuel tank filler neck
Anybody know how the fuel tank filler neck is attached to the tank on a 72. I bought a aftermarket tank an it only has a stub. I have my old tank out and the neck unbolted but it won't come off. I assume this means it is probably soldered on. I guess i could just cut the curved portion off and get it welded to the stub.

Soldered ...and a lot of people use the old one on their new tank because the repops arent right.

X2 use a chisel to start the cut and then follow up with tin snips. mine had the two bolts and soldered, replacement tank is brazed on, I got it off by using a dremel cut off wheel, since the new tank never had gas in it, I wasn t worried about sparks blowing me to kingdom come

where are you cutting ?. Did you get the whole neck off including the flange. Then how did you attach the new one ?. I have a neck off of a old tank that I cut off with part of the tank still attached so that will be my donor.

I know all I had to do with my old tank was take a propane torch to it where it attaches to the tank and the solder melted off and the neck came right off. Had a radiator shop braze it to the new tank.
