60-62 GMC's offered Hydra-matic's. 63-66 GMC's used powerglides and in 66 they also offered turbo hydra-matics.

Re: Automatic?

If the 305 V6 runs good HECK YEAH I WOULD!!! These engines are great engines and anyone who says other wise is NUTS. If it has good compression and runs good then I'd keep it, BUT what Really matters is what you want out of the truck...mileage? Put an LS in there....Great torque and power...Leave the 305 in there. People dog about the 305 V6 and need to stop. I own one and am really happy with it..great engine...188,000 on it and 120 pounds in all cylinders(125 brand new). Ain't an RPM engine but will pull a heavy load without a sweat. Only reason GM quite making them was because they were to good.

Re: Automatic?

Depends on if it runs good and how you are going to use the truck. If you are going to use it as a truck it is a good motor. If you are wanting to put an automatic in it you are going to need an adapter plate. Check out this site, it has a lot of info about the V6's http://6066gmcguy.com/index.php

Carb kits are available at Auto Zone for about $35 I think. Ya may consider the 500 Holley 2 barrel swap. Heard alot of good things about it and will be doing it on my 305E.

Re: Automatic?

I have the 500 holley but the biggest improvement was the dual exhaust really woke up the 305.Plus most people have no clue what the engine is.
