Hen's teeth

Having trouble locating sources for a couple of parts for the '54 1/2ton we're building. Both parts appear to be '54-'55.1 only.
I need the bezel/nut for the ignition switch, and the check link that keeps the glove box door from falling all the way down when opened.

I've tried numerous junk yards from Arizona to Arkansas, LMC, Bow Tie Bits, Classic Industries, Patrick's and a couple of others. Anyone know where I might purchase these parts? The check link, I think we can make, the bezel, not so much.

These are pics of what I need off a complete '54 that is not available for salvage.

Re: Hen's teeth

check rod for glove box looks the same up through the 72 trucks. Also that ring nut is not 54/55 only. I have seen them on some older cars but can't remeber which. If I run across another one I'll grab it.

Re: Hen's teeth

I've got a '70 C10 sitting right beside the '54. The check link is basically the same design, but it's longer for the bigger glove box door on the '70. Maybe the same on a TF truck or even the early '60's body. Thanks for the idea, didn't think to check one of those.

The ignition switch part may not be exclusive to the trucks, but I know that the truck ignition switch changed in '54 and all the earlier trucks I looked at in the junk yard had the switch flush with the dash and no nut. Earlier switches are retained by screws behind the dash, the '54 switch is retained by this nut.
Cars? Maybe, I don't know.

Call Ken Neel 918-605-2248 in eastern OK. Tom Myers should also have them. Google him in Miami OK for contact info. mothertruckeraz@aol.com will have them also. He is in AZ

All make a living selling old truck parts. Some are easier to deal with than others, two of those names don't like each other and one has no patience for feeling like someone is wasting his time.

Sounds like when I was hunting parts for an Isetta. There's 2 guys in the country, and at one time they ripped each other off. They don't talk about each other...much.
I've got Tom Myers phone # on a note regarding something else for this truck I found before I got to him. Guess I'll give him a shot.

Re: Hen's teeth

The chrome vent window frame came with the two tone interior. I know what you mean in that most people deny their existence. You can buy them aftermarket and Ken Neel had a truck a few years back that had the driver's side but not the passenger side. I don't know how many times people have told me that my truck was not original and that someone had custom chromed the vent window frames.

Re: Hen's teeth

Funny you should mention vent window frames. I got a care package on the brown truck yesterday. Seems the owner of this '54 I've been hunting parts for ordered a set of chromed vent window assemblies from Brother's and had them sent to me.
Good. This truck is very monotone, a little chrome will brighten things up.

Re: Hen's teeth

It is my understanding the you put the rubber around the window, then install the trim. After that, you install the whole assembly into the cab.
