Wiper motor buzzing

Last night on my way home my wipers stopped and the motor made a loud buzzing noise. Got home and tried to help the wipers, they moved a bit and then locked up again. Going to lube all the moving parts but assuming motor might be on it's way out. Thoughts? Been working just fine lately, and we've had lots of rain.

Is there any rust out where the wiper shaft goes through the firewall? If there is it could be binding up. You will probably need to take the cowl vent off and remove the wiper linkages from the wiper motor arm and see if the motor runs OK then. Also, while it is apart move each of the linkage rods by hand to see if they are free.

Re: Wiper motor buzzing

You might want to make sure you've got a good ground to the motor. That happened to me once on a 95 Chevy truck. I ran a dedicated ground from the motor to the fire wall and that solved the problem. The same thing happened on a 87 Dakota pickup I had. Go figure.

No rust issues, this truck is pretty much rust free.

I'll check the ground. Been driving the truck frequently and wipers have been working fine, just happened a few blocks from home last night.
