63 c10/k10

Hello everyone ive jummped in with both feet and started the conversion on my dads old 1963 c10. The truck has been in the family for around 30 years now. I had did a low buget resto back around 1996 and am now ready to do it right. Stripping it down to the frame and swapping with a 79 K10 donor.

Re: 63 c10/k10

Heres a few pics of the donor...I got lucky and found a real good one for the right price. Im going to keep and reuse the box its much beter than mine. It is very similar with exception of the fender bolt pattern and front stake length.

I dont' know what the interchangeability it, but please don't use the donor truck fenders if it's possible. I think it would look so much better with the correct ones. That being said, I LOVE 63's and to make it a 4x4, I'm definitely jealous. Looks like you've got a great starting point.

Thanks, yeah im going with the 63 fenders, I took a pic when I was mocking it up on the new box. Looks like I just need to weld/patch the old mounting holes and drill new ones for the 63 bolt pattern....got some body work to do on those old fenders to.

Those fenders look perfect on there. Nothing beats the look of a beautiful looking classic truck.

Frame is stripped, waiting to get into the Sandblaster. Brown Truck showed up with a box of Por15 for when it comes back.

Re: 63 c10/k10

Picked up a my new favorite tool. Been happy with it so far, used the .035 flux core to do a few minor frame repairs and the .025 mig on some sheet metal seems to work for me.

Re: 63 c10/k10

Yep there gone, looking at the 4" lift springs front and rear from tough country. Im not sure if the rear springs are already adding lift as it was sitting level with the fronts on thoes awful blocks.

Re: 63 c10/k10

Looking at these rear springs, could someone tell me if these are stock or not. They measure 14.25" from the center bottom of the spring to the bottom of the frame. Just wondering if I need to replace these when getting my 4" front lift.

Re: 63 c10/k10

If you have the cash for a kit that comes with all new leafs I would defiantly go ahead and do it, old leafs can crack and brake in half especially under the added stress of a add a leaf. My springs had two add a leafs per side and one side had two leafs broken in half.

Re: 63 c10/k10

Modblack, I have a '63 GMC 3/4 ton factory 4x4 that I'm rebuilding and I can't find a supplier that has a front and rear spring kit for rigs dating back to '63. I'd like a nice modern, soft ride like with Superlift...but I don't really need any lift...maybe 1 1/2 - 2" at the most would be ok. Do you know of any? Anyone else have ideas? Thanks!

Hey '63...I'm liking your rig!! Looks like you're doing a great job.

In a situation like that you will probably have to go to a local spring shop and have them built, you could call a leaf fab shop like Denver leaf spring and see what they can do for you if you don't have a shop in your area. The only other option would be to convert to a newer style leaf and move the mounts.
