Unhappy BLOWN! or blown...

This is my new problem.. You all have seen my blown roller 383 with a BDS Stage 2 blower with a 8 lbs pulley..with duel 780's sitting on top.. here is the problem.. Now my friend told me that he can give me "little" holley blower; in return i give him back the BDS blower i have now.. the holley will sit under the hood with a 10 lbs pulley setup... Here is the thing.. With the holley blower it will make my truck driveable on the street.. which i want ;and also it will fit under the hood but the horsepower figures will decrease alot... and with the blower i have now the horsepower is around 750?.. but the truck really isnt that driveable on the street.. and race gas is kind of pricey.plus i have to cut a hole in my hood to fit it. what should i do? keep the bad ass BDS blower or sacrafice horsepower for drivability?... Thanks everyone

i would keep the BDS. the cool factor is way higher and just go to a smaller pulley on it to decrease your boost some, that will make it more drivable on the street and be able to run lower octane. if your gonna have a blower might as well have a big one and show it off.

It really comes down to what you want. If it were me, I'd keep it as is and then buy another truck for cruising. I wouldn't want to give up the pure power.

I would stay with the big a$$ blower just cause it's killer looking, but if you need to drive the truck alot it may not be the best option..

Are you paying for the BDS? If you get the holley for free and you have to pay for the BDS, get the holley, but if both are free, Keep the BDS. Just my opinion.

keep the BDS, set the pullys up so you can swap top to bottom , so when you go to the track just swap to the high boost and when you leave switch them back for low boost

reality is reality, you can drive the truck as it is on the street and certainly draw attention with it, even when you stop in to get gas, I'm sure freaquently. Eventually you will come down to this , it's either street or strip, in your current fashion it's strip, if you downgrade the blower it's now a street/strip machine that will still blow the doors of most other stuff, if you need the extra HP you can always add some juice, maybe even talk the guy into a juice setup as well. I like the sleeper mode, ya know truck looks good, what the, where did he go factor? JMO

could you sell that and get a new "smaller" holley blower instead of a use one for trade? i would go with the smaller one just cause it's more streetable.

the bds is wicked, which i voted for, but the holley would mean driveability. in the end it is up to you!

I would make it streetable. Do a trade and get some cash out of it. If you cut a whole in the hood your are just looking for attention. Go the sleeper route.

Looks like you've never ran that engine before? (guessing) Why do you need racing fuel? With the proper compression ration and blower drive you should be able to run on 93 octane all day long and get around 8-10 miles per gallon. Just curious...

my uncle runs 93 octane in his blown 55chevy and it does just fine, i would say put a cowl hood on it and keep the bds.

I say go with the BDS

But then again I might be a little partial to having something hanging out the hood

With a little proper tuning and some planning (unless you have a high static Compression ratio) your engine should do fine on 93 out of the pump and the MPG you get is directly related to your right foot activity.

Ok I just re read your original post and you said the BDS is set up to run 8 PSI of boost and, the Holly is set up to run 10 PSI if you get those actual numbers out of them your going to have the same or more problems with the Holly on the street. With the increased boost comes more heat in the induction system which is going to increase your need for octane and your going to be spinning that little holly a lot harder to get 10 PSI out of it so your going to lose more HP thru parasitic drag. As it was said before you can easily swap pulleys on the BDS to change your boost between street and strip, 12 socket head bolts and you got it. I don’t know what you need to do the same on the Holly.
