Smooth Firewall With Vintage Air
Anyone out there smooth their firewall when they installed Vintage air?
I have done this with several other vehicles but am now working on my personal 67 and do not have the Vintage air yet. I was hoping some people could post up some pics of how they smoothed their wall and where they ran the Lines. And how they went about mounting the unit without hardware in the wall. Thanks |

Re: Smooth Firewall With Vintage Air
I'm gonna hop on here since this is a direction that I've been working through in my head also. I have the firewall shaved with the Porterbuilt panels but no Vintage Air or bulkhead connections thought out yet.

Re: Smooth Firewall With Vintage Air
You really should look at restomodair.com that is what I have, very easy to mount with the bracketry they supply.I also have their stealth micro controls, which I mounted with a 3d printed ac panel I got from coreyjonesdesigns.com,restomodair has a serpentine setup but I will be using March.I googled hidden ac lines and got great ideas on where to mount my bulkhead.corey has a panel that will work with vintage air should you go that route, great guy to do business with.

Shaved firewall.. No hoses can be seen around the firewall area.

I like the direction Raleighswb is going but with my cowl speakers that may make this a little more difficult. I may just have to go through the side cowl in the hump that was the blower recess to get the same result. Keep em coming fellas All great ideas. |

This company has some slick looking bulkheads if you are gonna put bulkheads in. I like both looks.

Re: Smooth Firewall With Vintage Air
This is actually my truck, most people that used vintage air used the universal kit so you have the choice of where the lines come out.

Re: Smooth Firewall With Vintage Air
I just looked at the restomod website, man what a goat@#$!, not user friendly at all,
Most people just want to buy a complete package to mount/hook up and go, not jump around and try to find all the existing parts Probably go with some one else more user friendly

Re: Smooth Firewall With Vintage Air
Just getting started on mine, i have my Vintage Air but i have not tried to install it yet. i was thinking on welding my mounting hardware to the inside of the dash abd just use nuts to hold it in place. |

I am thinking once I get the VA plates here I will weld a stud to the inside lower mounting location. At the top I will bead roll a shallow stepped channel ..... like the one someone might make in a lap welded 1/4 repair. I will weld that to the upper location co that I can slip the unit up under the strip and just mount the bottom with a nut. the rest of the unit will be mounted to the cowl with the front evaporator mounting plate. |

Re: Smooth Firewall With Vintage Air
Mine is a southern air unit but, as you can see....before smoothing, after smoothing and then with the AC and Heater lines run through a bulkhead fitting

Re: Smooth Firewall With Vintage Air
I recently redid my firewall and put the PB pieces in and got rid of some unused holes and smoothed all pinch welds out. I have a older Vintage Air system that was specifically for C10's and the unit outlets were too close to the firewall to do bulkhead type fittings, so I just cut up the plastic vintage air cover and used part of it.
