Rear frame damage. Can I hammer out?

Soooo. After removing bumper and body mounts it appears that she's been tagged in the rear. Looks like PO tacked some weld stock to compensate for the damage.

Problem is rear body mounts are bent too.

It looks like it's fairly minor and the rest of the frame is solid and straight.

I'm not a metal or frame expert. Can i just hammer out bends? Or am i making it worse?

Notice the kids pool tube....You never know when that will come in handy during the build.

Does it look ok on the other end of the x-member??

You will most likely need a little heat, but it shouldn't be much of a problem to fix.

Ha! Yeah my 220 lbs would put that underwater faster than the when Jaws took those barrels under. "He can't go under with 3 barrels on him!"
......but I digress.

Will propane handheld do the trick with BFH or full acetylene/oxygen torch. I only have a propane.

Be careful, a lot of fuel lines in the area, could you get a porta- power in there

Yeah, thanks. I already removed gas tank. Should I remove fuel lines too? tanks been removed for several months now.

That's a tough call, because you won t be able to remove them without damage, I don t think. If it was me, I would err on the side of caution and get rid of any fumes. At least get rid of the lines up to the rubber hose under the passenger seat, and do the work outside

Don t forget the vent canister mounted in the bed topside

Never used a porta power? How would it be used to straighten frame tails in my situation? Their both crunched in from rear end collision.

Or are you recommending heating and then somehow using pump to straighten? Sorry for the newbie questions.

Okay thanks, I'll do that. The vent canister in the DRside qtrpanel was removed too for repair. Thanks for the safety tip!

I see a fair amount of stretched metal there. You're going to need a regular torch. I don't think doing it cold, will net you much success.

You would have to be creative, build a immovable wall, the bottom of the frame would be easy, since you could use the floor to push up on. But as Turp says ( he's the pro) use a torch first and see what results you get. Last resort, buy a frame section, and have that welded on. There s one for sale, on the parts board. Keep us posted on your progress
