Which wheel center?

I have two options I am torn between. I am going to be running 15X8 steelies on my 4X4. Do I run the 85 centers I was thinking of, or do I run the centers off an 02 silverado? I feel the 85 although closer to an original style are not original, and will scratch up my freshly powder coated wheels. Whereas the 02 centers bolt to the lug nuts so no scratchy. Yes I can machine the centers of the 02 to fit over the 4wd hubs and I have the front 4wd set from the 85. Not much about my truck is going to be original. Anyone willing to share opinions?

I think both look pretty good. Could you put tape on the inside of the '85 centers to avoid them scratching the wheels? Maybe run one style on one side and the other on the other side, for a little while, and see which one grows on you.

I like the smaller 02 caps.

I like the looks of the 02 caps a little better, but both would be good. Heck, switch them back and forth as you get tired of one.

I like the 85 centers, 02 doesn't look quite right with the hubcap nubs on the rims. Of course I've always been kind of partial to those square body hub caps anyway. Joseph

I did something similar, adding the newer centre caps. I'm not sure what size lugnuts that the 4x4's run... but if they're 7/16 you should make sure that the taper on the nuts fit into the conical seats in the wheels. I had to turn mine down to fit.

Thanks for all your inputs, I think I am going to start with the 02's primarily because once I snap on the dog dishes there is no going back. Johnny_Lamebridge thanks for the heads up on the lug nuts that is something I had not considered, I can however machine those to.

I run my original caps on the same rims. Mine are painted and I have had very little damage to the paint. What couple of scratches I get are covered with the caps installed.....just throwing that out there. With the powder coating being a tougher finish....you may not find as much damage to the finish as you think.

I don't believe there was ever any factory 7/16-20 lug nuts with the external thread to accept to accept the "truck size" plastic nuts, so you'll have to find aftermarket nuts. I bought mine on ebay from a seller named lugnutking or something like that. He even sent me an extra nut, 25 instead of 24. Look for external thread or dual thread lug nuts, 22MM.
