Different angle on Camaro tach

My truck has the base, 3 gauge cluster installed in it (which is the original). I kinda like the look, especially with the integral blinkers, but I wanted a tach. So I decided to do a switchero: Camaro tach in the right hand opening, reworked fuel gauge in the center opening with the integral blinkers still in place.

To facilitate this, I'm changing all the indicator lamps and the blinkers to LED (I could use the incandescent, but it seems kind of silly...). I am also ditching the printed circuit.

So here's where I am at:
Ebay junk cluster:

NOS takeout tach from a '79 Z28

Opening it up:

Soon to be cut out center section

Repainted fuel gauge needle

Test fit, opening is not finished (cordless dremel battery died...)

Test fit

And temporary reassembly (lens polished using Brasso, of all things, so I could see through it again)

More to follow....

Once I finish getting the bezel trimmed and the gauges installed, I'm going to repolish the lens and remove the lettering. I'm just waiting to see exactly where things land in the center opening because I want to do it all at once.

Great detective work on pulling this one up. Good question. This is a cool project. How did it turn out?

Re: Different angle on Camaro tach

I like it too, but I would remove the letters and use the fuel gauges needle on the tach so they match.

Re: Different angle on Camaro tach

Wow! Zombie thread

The answer is no, I got sidetracked on this one because I found a decent deal on a full gauge cluster with tach for the truck it was supposed to go into.

The problem I ran into was feeding the dummy lights through the surface of my center mounted fuel gauge - if you were to relocate those lights to just LEDS on the dash, it would be simple.

I've still got all the parts if anybody wants to finish it

Re: Different angle on Camaro tach

Here is one that I did last year...for those interested.
I think they look great and pretty much look like they grew there....and they offer an extra 2K worth of revs (7000rpm) over the stock 5000rpm truck tach.
They can be a little tricky to sort out mechanically in the back tho'....but I figured out some good methods.
All Good
