Suggestions fo Upgrading Wiring Harness
I'm wondering if y'all have any recommendations for wiring harnesses. I want to upgrade my original with a modern blade style fuse block with plenty of room for extras and the ability to plug up original equipment. Any suggestions?????

Re: Suggestions fo Upgrading Wiring Harness
I have installed a couple of painless harnesses over the years and one Ron Francis on the last car I did.
I think the francis is a little better, but the painless was a little easier. both are good units.

x2 or x2000 on the American Autowire Classic Update Kit. Its a great kit, great instructions, great company, etc. That's what's inside my truck, and will be in my wifes when we get to hers, probably my son's when and if I do another for him.

Re: Suggestions fo Upgrading Wiring Harness
Not to hijack this thread, but does anyone have a good part number for the AAW harness four our trucks?

Re: Suggestions fo Upgrading Wiring Harness
I bought a 20 Circuit ATO blade type harness from Speedway Motors, and I used the firewall half of the original harness to "tie-in" the engine/light harnesses to keep everything under the hood appearing stock. I still have all the extra circuits for electric fuel pump/power windows, etc... but the extra features the stock harnesses lack. I basically took the factory schematics and the ones that came with the new harness and did the pin outs according to my harnesses under the hood. I had to make an adapter plate to mate the two fuse block parts together, but that was easy.... I think the harness cost like $160.....

Re: Suggestions fo Upgrading Wiring Harness
AAW update kit is very stock looking in appearance same color wires and everything & it keeps me at peace knowing that my truck is set from bumper to bumper for the life of my truck.

Re: Suggestions fo Upgrading Wiring Harness
What are your goals for the truck? Do you want a clean firewall with hidden wiring, or a stock appearance? Depending on those decisions, you have some options, American Autowire and M&H have beautifully crafted OEM style harnesses with correct terminals, OEM routing, and upgraded blade fuses if you so choose, along with some custom options like HEI built into a stock appearing harness.
Obviously the others (Painless, Ron Francis) are a large mass of freestanding wires (nothing wrong with that) that helps promote the routing and terminals that you need or want. Best of luck with your choice. |

Re: Suggestions fo Upgrading Wiring Harness
I do have one question that some of you may be able to answer for me on the AWW harness. As you know many of lights such as the dome light originally are set up with power to the socket all the time and the ground is closed at the switch to complete the circuit. Does this remain the same with the AWW harness or is it modified to a modern set up?
