Made A IPhone/Ipod Holder That Is Solid & Even Looks Decent

I wanted a sturdy dedicated Iphnoe mount in the truck. I did not want something that required modification/drilling/cutting on the truck or used a suction cup or clipped on to anything. I wanted it to look decent and original but not leave a footprint when removed.

I came up with this:

It was made using an second ashtray I purchased so I did not have to mess up the one already in truck. When I'm not using the mount all I have to do is pull it out & slip the original ashtray back in.

These are the components I used:
Old ash tray - from Ebay ................................................................................................ $15.00
An 8 inch slide track made by Scotty (fishing products) - from Amazon ............................ $7.14
Ram Mount Universal 1" ball quick release track rail adapter - from Amazon...................... $18.00
Ram Mount composite 1" ball double socket arm (3 inch length) - from Amazon ................ $9.30
Ram Mount universal X-Grip IV 1" ball Phone/Phablet Holder (large) - from Amazon .......... $23.08

I cut the slide track to fit within the face of the ash tray - about 6 1/8 inches.

Cleaned up the ash tray, primmerd & painted it. Then I drilled two holes in the track & the face plate to accommodate the mounting bolts and a larger hole drilled into the bottom of the ashtray from the inside for the auxiliary cable to feed through:

I painted it silver and attached the slide track using lock nuts and then slid it into the receiver on the dash:

Loaded up the adapter:

I attached the the socket arm and then the X-Grip.

It turned out pretty darn good. It's sturdy, adjustable and easily removed. The location is perfect for easy viewing.

Nice work on the mount.

I like that protector underneath your ignition key too. Never seen one of those.
