How many of you are running an sbc with headers

How many of you are running headers on your small blocks?
How many are having hard starting problems?
What starter are you using?
Thanks my 84 has been having hard starting problems and I feel like it's the headers but want to see what others have experienced

I'm no mechanic, but what do your headers have to do with starting? Serious question...I never would think to relate the two. BTW, I run headers and on my old sbc I never had starting issues. I was running a powermaster xs torque starter.

My truck came with a 400 sbc with ceramic coated headers and a mini starter but has had hot start issues since I bought it. I got tired of dealing with it so added a remote starter relay, upgraded to bigger battery cables and wrapped the starter with a heat shield.

I read about guys having issues with their starters getting heat soaked or whatever but I have a crate 350 with my old stock starter and long tube headers. In fact the headers barely touch part of my starter but I haven't had any issues. Hope that helps.

Yes, don't remember the brand, may have been Dynomax, they are ceramic coated full length.
Any hot start problems were caused by the mechanical advance sticking in the full advance position. Starting a hot engine with 25~30* advance gets a bit problematic. 195* thermostat, AC, 105* OK summer.
Standard $25 Autozone reman purchased about 20 years ago. Had to replace brushes a few months ago. $4 brush set vs having to re-shim a new starter.

98 chevy Tahoe starter.
Starts my 400 every time, but check your initial timing. Too much timing will make them hard start.

I had a set of hookers on my 81 350 and still had the stock big ol heavy starter on it and never had a problem with heat..

Hooker 2453 on a 78 K10 sb. Gear-reduction starter. 5+ years. No problems.

i have never had any problems with hot starts and headers on any of my rigs. timing, tired starter, or wiring issues in my opinion. i'm not saying heat soak can't happen, but i haven't ever had to deal with it, and i've owned quite a few sbc's with headers.

Hard start I'd say would be more due to your carb than headers.

long tube headers
running starter from 1998 454 which is a permanent magnet gear reduction starter
starter is half the size and weight of 81 350 starter and spins engine faster than my old one did
so far no problems at all

10.9:1 350 with full-length headers, also running a gear-reduction starter from a '98 Chevy. No problems at all anymore (but the starter seems noisy).

mine also is louder than an older model starter but sounds same as the one on my friends 97 k1500. think it is the gear reduction

Unknown age stock style starter with full length hookers. When it's at operating temp it will occasionally not spin. Starter solenoid is my guess, only bc I had the same issue on my 403 olds with headers and a solenoid fixed the problem.

Oh, I did have heat-soak issues with the old-style starter initially, and tried a heat-shield, additional ground cable, bigger battery cables, as well as a remote Ford-style solenoid. The gear-reduction starter was the best fix.
