Re: bbc or sbc
Big block done right will also need some up front suspension work. If torque and heavy towing then big block gets my vote.

Re: bbc or sbc
If you want torque AND power... I would go big block.
You can get a lot of power from a small block, but it's difficult to match the torque, especially at lower RPMs.

Re: bbc or sbc
whats the gearing in the rear end. thats what determines the usable range of torque and power. I have a 72 c10 with a 307 3 speed on the column. and 373 gears in the rear it is not fast and I am always serching for that next gear. even if it were a bbc I'd still be searching for it.
But on the other hand I have towed some increadable loads, very slowly thanks to the 373 gears. I have though alot about going with highway gear set. but on those occasions when I haul thos crazy heavy loads I am always greatfull for those 373 gears. Too bad its a 3 speed because I am so bias in favor of three speeds, especialy if they are all origonal. if not... then you might consider a NP 4500 s speed overdrive tranny install befor you go with a BBC or sbc swap. cheeper all around and it really changes the personality of the truck, especially if you do highway driving. all that being said, I find the small block gets the job done more cost effectively. BBC is kinda overkill 90% of the time. |

Re: bbc or sbc
My vote... Big Block. Mainly because they looks awesome between the frame rails.

Re: bbc or sbc
I vote big block. Low end tire shredding torque.
