Some of my best memories are from that area. I spent my summers as a kid in Middletown. My dad worked on the nearby Geysers project for northern Californias power company PG&E, and he would bring us up with him each summer. The hot springs are pretty awesome around there. My brother and I spent countless hours out in the woods. This was the early 80's, and i remember my brother and I constructed an Ewok village for our Star Wars toys in the trees. Good times.
I took my wife and kids there a couple years ago to swim at the swimming hole I used to go to. Really made me sad to see the devastation. The hills surrounding the town itself are pretty heavily wooded. And with the drought it's as dry as a bone.
