1986 C10 SWB - College Project!
Hey everyone! My name is Tevon and i am currently attending a community college for two years with the intent of getting a degree for Auto Body, I'm currently working on a 1986 C10 Shortbed, Frame off resto.
Engine caught on fire, so i have brand new fenders, inner and out, hood, grille, headlight bezels, and soon to be radiator support. I plan on repairing the bed, Support rails, and above the wheel arches are rusted threw but with a Tabco patch panel i hope to repair those. Ill post all the pictures i can, and will post a "need parts" info page in the same forum. The bed is off the frame, all the older fenders, rad support, and the cab will soon be getting patched. Goals for it at the moment, are a 5.3L from a 2001 suburban, a 4L80E from a 1995 3500 2WD and a big ole' turbo. I also have new glass already. Everything, cab, bed, frame, will be sandblasted. I also will be getting new interior, no idea what i am going to do for seats yet. Any constructive criticism is allowed. I'm open to ideas Just a 18 year old with big dreams. |

Looks like you are off to a good start.
The only thing I can think of - and I have no personal experience here - is be careful sandblasting those sheetmetal components. I have heard of guys warping the panels because they had too much pressure or removed too much material and then they had a mess on their hands. Perhaps others here can shed some light on that now that I brought it up. K

One other thought would be to read as many build threads here as you can.
You might find a lot of good ideas on build order, organization, cleaning techniques, etc. My build thread is linked below (intro thread). K

My school has a sandblaster that applies water to the metal you are sandblasting. Sheet metal components are said to be ok. |

Sand is really bad for sheet metal. Best media to use is soda or crushed walnut shells.

Be careful. Its not heat that warps the metal. The blasting stretches one side of the metal. Think of 1000's of tiny planshing hammers hitting it.
