Water temp gauge replacement. (help finding previous post)

I'm working on rebuilding a cluster. I thought I had found a post before where someone took a gauge from the 73-75'ish trucks and made it work in our 67-72?

Was I smoking something because I cant seem to find that post now?

:edit: Or is it the volt meter that swaps out so it has real numbers rather than just a needle waving around?

I'm doing the same right now- replacing the ammeter with a late 70s battery gauge, and a temperature gauge as well. I'm wondering if the different gauge needs a specific sending unit.

Here's an old thread on the subject. Post 7 by VetteVet has good info on wiring.

Thanks. I had the temp and volt backwards. Its the volt meter that actually gives the direct numbers, not a WAG sweep.
