help help distributer

I'm getting like a oil smoke in side cap.can this be from bad o-ring on shaft.also will a distrib off 305 or 350 work in 454

Yes, the dizzy off of a 305 / 350 will work. Just a thought, if the residue looks like exhaust residue, this could be from fuel vapors entering the carb through the vac. advance. When burnt they would leave a sooty residue and moisture. Are you sure the residue is from oil and not gas? Can you smell fuel vapors?
