has anybody installed an underbed gas tank in a longbed TF?

It's time to move the gas tank. My long bed has an additional crossmember in the rear frame area.
Has anybody moved the gas tank on a long bed with this crossmember?
This crossmember on my truck ties in with the rear spring mount where the rear spring shackles are.
Removing the crossmember would allow the rear frame to flex, and possibly crack.
Looks like I could use a small 32X22 tank and a smaller one forward

i dont have a long bed, but i did have to remove the rear crossmember and a trailer hitch. then made a new crossmember with 1' square tubing

That's what I was trying to avoid.
I need to put in a hidden hitch to keep someone from slamming into my truck and spilling fuel everywhere.
I don't have a rear bumper, just a roll pan with a license plate box.
Until I put the hitch in it, I won't do the tank.

If you can remove the bed without any problems, the Mustang II fuel tank is a good option. You have to grind / cut your frame rails a bit to skinny them up around 3/8" per side but it's not hard. Then remove the cross member, flip it around or shift it to where it and the MII tank play nice, drill, reinstall with grade 8 hardware torqued to spec. Grade 5 is good enough if you torque to yield but then it's trashed, can't re-use it.
If you can't / don't want to remove the bed & modify the frame, save up for a bolt-in unit. In retrospect, I should have waited on my whole build OR ponied up for the bolt-in tank.

On my L.B. I used a NoLimit tank If I were to do it again I might use the Mustang Tank.

The rear cross member was removed and a new one welded in 4" back.

As you can see the tank tucks in and is a long way forward of the rear bumper.

I added a U-Haul receiver for a Chevy Venture Van It is a perfect fit it just need some new bolt holes drilled.

Roger, is your truck a 7 foot bed or 8 foot bed?

Chevyman, I like the mustang tank with the bolt on filler,

And G&R, you don't have leaf springs, so moving your crossmember was a no brainer.

I have to make a decision.

and G&R, I don't have a bumper, I have a roll pan. Finding a hitch like that with the receiver in the cross bar would work.

It's the 89".
Is yours the 89" or 97" long bed?

I took the chassis with the bumper installed down to the U-Haul company store and searched their inventory for one that would fit.

You might do the same with the roll pan in hand and see what fits.

I found some photos of your truck and answered my own question. Looks like yours is a 97" bed. Don't know what differences that makes in the frame but here's more info on my conversion:

It's perfect for those that don't want to fill from the bed.

What I did for my fill was to cut out the original flange in the cab and found a place on the rear fender with a similar curve and welded the flange in there.

I want to do something kinds like what you did, only I want to still use the cab fill, and run a pipe from the cab to the back of the truck.
along the top of the frame rail under the bed and it will still look original from the outside.
If I did kinda what you did with a fender fill, I would see if I could find a smashed fender, cut out the top rear and make a flip up fender section with a "pocket" with the filler in it.
I would cut my fender to size, and make a new section from the smashed fender.

The only thing I would not know, is if the gas would flow easily to the tank with the front of the truck an inch lower than the rear.
